About English Language Arts 8
This course is designed to help students practice, expand and improve their English language skills with the goal of becoming a creative and proficient communicator. Through authentic learning activities, students will work on language and literacy skills in order to communicate confidently and effectively. We will explore and analyze various oral, written, visual, and digital texts and cultural connections. To explore their message and perspective, we will learn to analyze, synthesize, and reflect on messages individually and collaboratively while developing critical thinking skills and points of view, intentions, and assumptions. Language exploration of text and literacy development will be explored through independent novel studies and projects. We will learn to respond critically to different types of texts, and communicate spontaneously and effectively. Together we will practice organizing ideas logically and fluently, writing stories and developing effective techniques to express and defend our opinion, arguments and viewpoints. We will work to improve our individual and group communication and writing skills through enhanced transition words and structured sentences.
